Should You Spy on a Suspected Cheater?

Do you suspect that your romantic partner is cheating on you?  If so, you may be ready to breakout the spy gear, but wait!  Is spying on your partner really the best way to catch them cheating?  It depends on a number of factors, a few of which are outlined below.

1 – Your Relationship

Before you start spying on a suspected cheater, it is important to closely examine the relationship.  Are you married, in a serious relationship, or just casual partners?  This should determine your answer.  Do you have a boyfriend of one week?  If so, don’t waste your time.  If you truly suspect your boyfriend is cheating, end the relationship before any serious damage can be done.

2 – Your Equipment

In most cases, all that is needed to spy on a suspected cheater is a mode of transportation.  To protect your identity and safety, do not drive your own vehicle, especially if it can be recognized.  Instead, rent a car or borrow one from a friend.

Although pictures or video of your cheating partner is not required, it can work to your advantage. When confronted with cheating, cheaters still deny their actions.  Most will turn the situation on you claiming that you say someone else.  So, what should you do? Have proof.

Proof in the form of pictures or videos will not only reassure you and your partner of what you saw, but they are usually allowed in divorce proceedings.  If your state has a fault for divorce or if a prenuptial agreement was signed, you can greatly benefit from proof.

3 – Your Financial Resources

As previously stated, proof is recommended if you are serious about spying to catch a cheating partner.  This may require the purchase of a digital camera or video recorder.  If limited of funds, approach a trusted friend to borrow.

Financial resources are also needed in the case of long-distances affairs.  Unfortunately, spying on a suspected cheater doesn’t always involve following them to the local bar or a nearby hotel.  It may literally mean traveling across the country.

Before you decide to start spying on a romantic partner, ensure you have the resources needed to do so.

4 – Your Schedule

One of the reasons why men and women are able to cheat is because of time.  If you and your partner were to spend every minute together, they couldn’t have the opportunity to cheat.  However, business trips, hectic work schedules, school, and kids make this impossible.  If your partner is cheating on you, he or she is doing so when you are occupied and usually at work.  This means that you may need to adjust your schedule to investigate.  Can you do so?

5 – Your Safety

In some cases, spying on a cheating partner becomes more than just an adventure; it becomes dangerous.  For starters, anyone would be upset to learn that they were followed.  For that reason, it is important to gauge your safety.

Do you have an abusive spouse that is known to fly off the handle?  If so, what may happen if you are caught spying or when you confront them?  If there is any chance your safety could be jeopardized, don’t spy.  Instead, hire a private investigator.

6 – Your Ability to Deal with What You See

Those who suspect cheating often take steps to prepare themselves for what may be to come.  For example, your intent may be to breakup with a cheating partner, move out, or file for divorce.  Even with preparation, most are still unable to deal with they see.  Of course, it is okay to be heartbroken, but now is the time to take action.  Whether you want to work on the relationship or end it, do not let a cheating spouse ruin your life.

As you can see, spying on a suspected cheater involves more than just hopping in a car and following.  It involves careful planning.  So, if spying is your only option, wait until you are fully ready to proceed.
